Feltwork

Feltwork is a relatively new skill for me. It was while I was visiting Edinburgh that I happened to see a small exhibition of feltwork sculptures. The gallery owner explained the mechanics of making these sculptures and the idea appealed to me.

I acquired a book from the library, bought the basics and had a go. It was a very laborious process but I liked the end product so decided to pursue it. Equipped with wool from an English woollen mill, and several very sharp needles, I decided that I was not interested in flat feltwork, but concentrated on needle felting.

I decided I wanted to produce animal sculptures and also decorated beads. Since starting to make these sculptures in early 2010 I have found these animals to be very popular. In the Gallery section I have shown some examples. The majority of these are now sold, but I will be making more before the 2011 season and they will be on sale at Mey Market, and also online.
