CeramicsI have not produced any ceramics recently as I have been concentrating on painting. However, I have selected a few of my favourite pieces to include in a gallery page. I began making ceramics after attending a short pottery making course, which demonstrated the raku technique. This involves firing to a high temperature, removing the ceramics when still hot, and allowing to cool very quickly, thus creating the crazed effect and also unpredictable effects in the glazes as the piece cools very rapidly. This method is quite hazardous and casualties are common! When I recommence my ceramic making I will be experimenting with other, less risky, methods, but still hope to produce the same results. © Jane Strugnell, Artisan Caithness, 2011. | ![]() |
